New Delhi, June 12 (NationPress) In a heartfelt initiative to support the families of those affected by the devastating crash of Air India Flight 171, the airline announced on Thursday that it will operate two special relief flights -- one from Delhi and another from Mumbai to Ahmedabad.
These flights are designed to facilitate the travel of next of kin to the crash site and nearby medical facilities.
As stated in the airline's message on X, the first relief flight from Delhi (IX1555) is scheduled to take off at 11 p.m. on Thursday, with the return flight (IX1556) from Ahmedabad set for 1.10 a.m. on June 13.
Similarly, from Mumbai, flight AI1402 will also depart at 11 p.m., while the return flight AI1409 is planned for 1.15 a.m.
“Families and relatives residing in Delhi and Mumbai who wish to travel can reach out to the dedicated hotline at 1800 5691 444,” the airline mentioned in a post on the social media platform X.
For international travelers, Air India has established a separate helpline at +91 8062779200.
This initiative forms part of a larger support strategy following the tragic event that occurred on Thursday.
The flight was being operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, commanded by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar.
Earlier, Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran pledged financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for the families of each victim.
“Words cannot express the sorrow we feel during this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones and those who have sustained injuries,” remarked Chandrasekaran.
The company further committed to covering medical costs for the injured and aiding in the construction of a new hostel at B.J. Medical College as part of its long-term support strategy.
