Airports as India's Global Identity: Insights from Ram Mohan Naidu
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 1 (NationPress) The Minister of Civil Aviation, Ram Mohan Naidu, emphasized that our airports serve as India's identity card to the global stage, showcasing a blend of innovative global benchmarks and architectural styles that are deeply intertwined with local traditions, embodying the principle of 'Vikas Bhi Virasat Bhi'.
While addressing the 31st Annual Day of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in New Delhi, he highlighted that the AAI is integral to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's UDAN initiative, which aims to enhance air travel accessibility throughout India's diverse landscapes.
“The AAI is reinventing the flying experience in India with passenger-focused programs such as the UDAN Yatri Cafe, Flybrary, complimentary Wi-Fi, and dedicated Kids Zones. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to AAI personnel and their families for embodying the vision of evolving into a premier global airport developer and operator,” remarked the minister.
Naidu also presided over a meeting of the Civil Aviation Consultative Committee, addressing the crucial topic of aircraft manufacturing and maintenance within the nation.
“The Government's ambition, under the reform-oriented guidance of PM Modi, is to establish a self-reliant aviation framework by enhancing domestic capabilities and securing India's position in the global aviation supply chain. I express my gratitude to the participating MPs for their insightful contributions and for recognizing the strides taken toward developing civil aircraft manufacturing capabilities in India,” Naidu stated.
Earlier that day, the government announced that domestic airfares are not expected to experience a significant spike, as measures have been taken to cushion the impact of rising aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices by permitting only a partial fare increase for domestic carriers.
Naidu asserted that this measured approach would protect travelers and the aviation industry. “This strategic approach will shield passengers from sudden fare hikes, alleviate the pressure on domestic airlines, and foster the ongoing stability of the aviation sector during this critical period,” he noted.
He further added that this initiative would also benefit the wider economy by ensuring seamless cargo transport and preserving essential air connectivity vital for trade and logistics.
