On June 12, Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner traveling from Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport (London), tragically crashed just one minute after takeoff. The incident took place in the densely populated Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad. The flight had 242 people on board—230 passengers, 2 pilots, and 10 crew members.
The deceased included passengers and young medical students from Meghani Nagar, Ahmedabad. Their premature passing is regarded as a significant loss not only for their families but also for the nation’s future.
Immediately following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site and Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where he met with the injured and the families of the deceased, reviewing the rescue and relief measures. He also chaired a high-level meeting at the airport to direct further actions.

The Civil Aviation Minister expressed profound sadness over the tragic loss of life, acknowledging that the incident had deeply affected the nation. The Ministry has urged the public and the media to avoid speculation or unverified reporting.
“All official findings will be communicated in a timely and transparent manner as investigations proceed. The government remains committed to uncovering the truth and delivering justice to the affected families,” the statement concluded.
