  • Airtel’s AI tool has identified over 27.5 billion spam calls.
  • New features will be free and automatically activated.

New Delhi, April 21 (NationPress) Bharti Airtel has introduced two significant enhancements to its AI-driven spam detection system aimed at safeguarding users from unwanted spam calls and messages.

The telecom giant will now notify customers about international spam calls and SMS messages.

Additionally, users will get spam notifications in their chosen Indian languages, making it simpler for individuals across the nation to comprehend and react to these alerts.

This latest functionality will be accessible in ten Indian languages, which include Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Punjabi, and Urdu.

Airtel has indicated that more languages will be included in the future. At present, the alerts in regional languages are exclusively available for Android devices.

This initiative follows a concerning observation from Airtel. Although the company’s spam detection tool had effectively minimized domestic spam, fraudsters began leveraging foreign networks to make spam calls to Indian users.

This resulted in a 12 percent rise in international spam calls over the past six months. The recent upgrades aim to mitigate this emerging threat.

Airtel’s AI-enhanced tool, which debuted in September 2024, has already identified over 27.5 billion spam calls.

This is equivalent to detecting around 1,560 spam calls each second. Since its introduction, Airtel customers have also witnessed a 16 percent decline in spam calls.

Siddharth Sharma, Director of Marketing and CEO Connected Homes at Bharti Airtel, remarked that customer input was crucial in implementing these changes.

“Given that more spam traffic is now originating from international sources, we have opted to broaden our AI tool to monitor all foreign calls and messages. We’re also simplifying the alert comprehension process for customers by providing them in their regional languages,” he stated.

These features are being automatically deployed to all Airtel customers and will continue to be free of charge. Users are not required to take any action to activate them, he added.
