Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Amritsar, Jan 5 (NationPress) The Akal Takht Jathedar, Kuldip Singh Gargaj, has summoned Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to provide an explanation regarding his comments about Sikh institutions that have offended the religious feelings of the community.
The Jathedar stated that the Chief Minister's remarks in videos directed towards Sikh Gurus and the late Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, former head of Damdami Taksal, were disrespectful and amounted to sacrilege.
In a formal statement, it was mentioned, “While addressing a serious Panthic issue, you have exhibited an anti-Sikh mindset through your repeated objectionable comments against the Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s Sikh Rehat Maryada, its supreme authority, and the principle of dasvandh, Guru Ki Golak, which have deeply hurt Sikh sentiments.”
“Furthermore, several inappropriate videos featuring you have recently emerged, showcasing you participating in highly objectionable actions involving the images of Sikh Guru Sahiban and the revered national martyr of the 20th century, Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale.
The highest temporal authority of Sikhism stated, “As per the directives of the esteemed Singh Sahib Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib, you hold a significant constitutional position in Punjab, and your anti-Sikh remarks reflect a troubling political arrogance.”
The Jathedar pointed out that since CM Mann is a “patit Sikh,” someone who has cut his hair, he is required to submit his response to the Akal Takht Sahib secretariat.
“You are summoned to appear in person at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on January 15, 2026, at 10 am to provide your clarification,” he added.
In 2024, former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal was declared ‘tankhaiya’ for breaching the Sikh religious code.
