Etawah, April 12 (NationPress) The chief of the Samajwadi Party (SP), Akhilesh Yadav, inaugurated a statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the creator of the Indian Constitution, at the Mahewa block in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh. The event also saw the presence of the national general secretary of the Samajwadi Party, Shivpal Singh Yadav.
During his speech, Akhilesh Yadav criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly “attempting to undermine the Constitution.” He expressed his appreciation for the party members who installed Baba Saheb's statue, reaffirming their commitment to follow the path laid out by him to bolster the nation. He stated, “The Constitution gifted to us by Baba Saheb acts as a protective shield, particularly for the underprivileged, marginalized, and oppressed. It paves the way for equality and dignity for everyone.”
The SP leader reinforced that the party would persist in upholding the principles of Dr Ambedkar, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, and the legacy of Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav).
He noted that the statue of Baba Saheb positioned next to that of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee should serve as a reminder for the BJP. “We honored both leaders. This signifies that the Constitution is impartial to all. BJP leaders should come and learn from this ethos of unity,” he remarked.
Regarding the BJP's Dalit outreach initiative set to commence on April 14, Yadav commented, “The BJP is attempting to conceal behind such initiatives because they are apprehensive about our PDA (Pichhde, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) alliance. Baba Saheb encountered caste bias even for fundamental rights like accessing drinking water. The BJP's newfound interest in Dalit matters appears to be politically driven.”
He added that the BJP is organizing events only after the SP’s functions conclude. “They are merely trying to follow in our footsteps. I hope they will apologize for the wrongs they have committed so far.”
