On January 28, PM Modi inaugurated the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, where 10,000 athletes will compete across various sports over the following 17 days. He characterized the National Games as a ‘celebration of India’s extraordinary sporting talent’.
During his address, PM Modi emphasized the urgency of adopting a healthy lifestyle and raised alarms about obesity becoming a ‘health threat’ in the nation.
“Statistics indicate that our country is experiencing a surge in obesity and associated issues. Every demographic, including the youth, is being impacted by this. It’s alarming because increased body weight is making the populace vulnerable to lifestyle-related illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease,” PM Modi stated.
He highlighted that the Fit India movement and the National Games will act as powerful instruments in motivating individuals to lead an active, disciplined, and balanced lifestyle.
Moreover, he urged the citizens to concentrate on two essential aspects—exercise and dietary control.
He encouraged everyone to dedicate some time each day to exercise, whether through walking or working out. Stressing the significance of a balanced and nutritious diet, he recommended minimizing unhealthy fats and oils.
“Old is gold because our ancestors consumed fresh, natural, and balanced meals,” he emphasized.
PM Modi also advised reducing cooking oil usage by at least 10% each month, asserting that such small changes can lead to substantial health benefits.
“A sound mind and a healthy body can establish the groundwork for a healthy nation,” he noted, receiving applause from the audience.
PM Modi also called upon the sports community, state administrators, and community leaders to assist citizens in making informed choices.
