New Delhi, Jan 30 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a healthy nation and the necessity for a campaign against increasing obesity has received favorable feedback from various groups.
The spiritual leader and chief of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Ravindra Puri, expressed his support for the PM’s advocacy of a healthy lifestyle on Thursday.
In a conversation with IANS, Puri remarked, “This is a commendable initiative…every individual should prioritize fitness, as those who are fit can contribute positively in their respective fields. You may have noticed that many saints have initiated a campaign. Thousands of Yoga instructors are actively engaged in promoting health... our Akhara also has Yoga instructors, including Baba Ramdev, who are all working toward the goal of enhancing public fitness. Only when we are fit and healthy can we work with vigor.”
“A healthy student is better positioned to study and perform well in their job. Therefore, maintaining fitness is essential for excelling in any profession and providing top-notch service,” Puri emphasized.
“Modi ji has articulated that fitness should be a goal for everyone, be it a spiritual leader, an educator, or anyone else. When all of India embraces fitness, a profound message will resonate across the globe,” he shared with IANS.
Earlier that day, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar shared PM Modi’s video on X, stating, “Health is the greatest wealth.” He also encouraged everyone to heed PM Modi’s recommendations for regular exercise and a nutritious diet for a vibrant life.
During the inauguration of the 38th National Games in Dehradun, Uttarakhand on January 28, PM Modi emphasized the urgency of adopting a healthy lifestyle and expressed concerns over obesity becoming a health hazard in the nation.
“Statistics indicate that our nation is experiencing a rise in obesity and related health issues. This trend is affecting all demographics, including the youth. It’s alarming because the increase in weight is making our population vulnerable to lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and heart conditions,” PM Modi highlighted.
He urged citizens to concentrate on two aspects: exercise and diet management.
He encouraged everyone to dedicate some time each day for physical activity, whether it be walking or exercising. Highlighting the significance of a balanced and nutritious diet, he advocated reducing the intake of unhealthy fats and oils.
“Old is gold, as our ancestors consumed fresh, natural, and balanced meals,” he remarked.
PM Modi also recommended cutting down on cooking oil by at least 10% each month, asserting that such minor adjustments could lead to considerable health gains.
“A healthy mind and a healthy body are essential for establishing a healthy nation,” he concluded.
