New Delhi, Jan 31 (NationPress) A number of spiritual leaders publicly supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Fit India' initiative on Friday, emphasizing that a healthy body houses a healthy mind.
During his speech at the inauguration of the 38th National Games in Dehradun on January 28, the Prime Minister pointed out the alarming rise in obesity rates across the nation, highlighting it as a significant concern.
Regarding the Fit India Movement, he underscored the necessity of exercise and balanced diet, advocating for a focus on reducing unhealthy fats and oils in meals, and suggesting a 10% decrease in daily oil consumption.
In an interview with IANS, Swami Jitendranand Saraswati, General Secretary of the All India Sant Samiti, remarked, "I perceive the Prime Minister's message in a very optimistic manner. His initial measure upon taking office was to prioritize sanitation to avert epidemics. A healthy body houses a healthy mind, and when the populace is healthy and mentally at ease, progress becomes achievable for the nation."
Addressing IANS regarding PM Modi's 'Fit India' campaign, spiritual leader Devkinandan Thakur expressed, "Fast food is becoming a peril to our nation. This danger is already prevalent in Europe, the US, and Canada. Yet, we have a tendency to mimic others without exercising our own discernment. Observing others and thinking we should replicate their actions is misguided. Our cuisine, attire, and culture are unique, which is why we maintain fitness."
Acharya Mithilesh Nandini Sharan, in conversation with IANS, stated, "Given PM Modi's emphasis, it is quite fitting, and he is undoubtedly qualified to speak on this subject. His remarkable fitness after a lengthy life and substantial workload is commendable, thus he should promote it. Concerning Yoga, it serves not as a fitness tool; rather, exercise fulfills this role. Our scriptures distinctly refer to these practices. Exercise pertains to maintaining physical fitness, while Yoga focuses on mental purification; hence, Yoga's essence lies in purifying the mind."
Commenting on PM Modi's Fit India initiative, Chidanand Saraswati, spiritual leader of the Parmarth Niketan Ashram, noted, "Our nation is fortunate to have a Prime Minister like him, for he embodies simplicity rather than conventional rulership. He is humble, a devotee, and a yogi. He possesses an intrinsic understanding of what is right and what actions are necessary. If India aims to stay fit and prosperous, we must first ensure our own fitness. ‘Fit India is a Hit India’. This principle is vital. Furthermore, ‘Food makes your mood’—what you consume shapes who you become. Therefore, it is essential to eat wisely and lightly, paying close attention to your diet.
