Guwahati, Feb 26 (NationPress) The leader of Raijor Dal, Akhil Gogoi, announced on Wednesday that the necessary formalities for establishing an alliance with the Congress are expected to be finalized in the coming days. He emphasized that his party has always been in favor of this partnership.

Responding to inquiries about the developing opposition coalition in Assam, Gogoi stated that Raijor Dal has previously backed the notion of collaborating with Congress and remains committed to this stance.

He further mentioned that conversations between the two parties are progressing well, and an official declaration is imminent.

The Raijor Dal chief asserted that the intended alliance seeks to bolster the opposition's capacity to effectively contest the BJP in the state.

He highlighted the importance of unity among like-minded parties to safeguard democratic principles and tackle the challenges confronting the citizens of Assam.

Gogoi also revealed that discussions regarding seat-sharing and coordination are underway, expressing optimism that a consensus will be achieved for the electorate's benefit.

The alliance aims to address critical issues affecting the populace, such as unemployment, rising prices, and the protection of the rights and identities of the people of Assam.

Previously, the Sivasagar legislator asserted that no significant coalition could exclude Raijor Dal ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.

"Constructive discussions are ongoing regarding the alliance. The Congress has made a move, and there has been some thawing of relations," he stated, indicating positive developments in negotiations for a more extensive opposition front.

Akhil Gogoi noted that while Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has not reached out to him directly yet, senior Congress figure and former president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Ripun Bora, has been in contact.

"Although I have yet to hear from Gaurav Gogoi, Ripun Bora has communicated with me," he mentioned, adding that informal dialogues between the parties continue.

He also indicated that the president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Lurinjyoti Gogoi, who is affiliated with Congress in Assam, has maintained frequent communication with him concerning the alliance.

Akhil Gogoi remarked that Lurinjyoti Gogoi has assured him that Raijor Dal will not be marginalized in any opposition formation. "Lurinjyoti Gogoi has made it clear that an alliance cannot proceed without Raijor Dal," he emphasized, reiterating the party's demand for respect, political representation, and issue-driven cooperation within any proposed coalition.

The political landscape in Assam has witnessed increased activity recently, with regional and national parties exploring the formation of a united front to contest the ruling BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Raijor Dal, rooted in grassroots activism and mass movements, is recognized as a significant player, especially in Upper Assam.
