Amaravati, March 31 (NationPress) A legislation to grant Amaravati the official status as the exclusive capital of Andhra Pradesh is set to be unveiled in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2026 will be introduced in the Lok Sabha.

This bill aims to amend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, recognizing Amaravati as the capital.

Notably, Sub-Section (2) of Section 5 of the Act will be revised to state, “and Amaravati shall be the new capital,” replacing the earlier phrasing “and there shall be a new capital.”

The proposed change clarifies that 'Amaravati' encompasses the capital city areas defined under the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority Act, 2014.

This amendment is expected to take effect from June 2, 2024.
