Srinagar, March 27 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Thursday that separatism is nearing its end in Jammu and Kashmir as two additional groups have declared their separation from separatist ideologies.

“Another significant update from the Kashmir Valley. Two more organizations linked with the Hurriyat, specifically J&K Tahreeqi Isteqlal and J&K Tahreek-I-Istiqamat, have turned their backs on separatism and placed their faith in the new Bharat established by PM Shri @narendramodi Ji. Under the leadership of Modi, separatism is on the verge of extinction, and the victory of unity resonates throughout Kashmir,” the Home Minister posted on ‘X’.

Earlier this week, two other groups, JK People’s Movement (JKPM) and Democratic Political Movement (DPM), also announced their detachment from the Hurriyat Conference.

Advocate Mohammad Shafi Reshi, chairman of DPM, was once the Political Secretary to the late hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani.

Mohammad Shahid Mir, chairman of JKPM, likewise declared his rejection of separatism and his break from the Hurriyat Conference.

Advocate Mohammad Shafi Reshi is related to Yasir Reshi, a former legislator and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mehbooba Mufti.

Mohammad Shahid Mir, who hails from the Poonch district, has been notably active on social media and leads JKPM.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), a coalition of 26 political, social, and religious groups, was created on March 9, 1993, as a unified political front to represent the militant movement.

Mehmood Ahmed Saghar served as the inaugural convener of the APHC-PoK at its inception in 1993.

The Hurriyat Conference has since divided into two principal factions: the Mirwaiz and Geelani factions.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is recognized as the founder and chairman of the Mirwaiz faction, while Masarat Alam Bhat is the interim chairman of the Geelani faction, having succeeded Syed Ali Geelani after his passing.

Following the division of J&K into two Union Territories and the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A on August 5, 2019, the Hurriyat Conference has largely become inactive.
