Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, Feb 6 (NationPress) On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah led a high-level meeting to evaluate the current security landscape in Jammu and Kashmir. Attendees included Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Kumar Deka, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, Jammu-based White Knight Corps General Officer Commanding Lt Gen P.K. Mishra, Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Nalin Prabhat, and other senior officials from military, police, civil, and intelligence sectors at Lok Bhawan.
This top-tier security review was convened against a backdrop of intensified anti-terror operations, resulting in the neutralization of four Pakistan-based terrorists associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) after nearly a dozen encounters in the Jammu region's Kathua, Udhampur, and Kishtwar districts over the last fortnight.
This marks the second security review led by the Union Home Minister in just a month, following a similar meeting in Delhi on January 8 where he emphasized the ongoing counter-terror operations aimed at dismantling terror financing and infrastructure in a 'mission mode'.
Shah reaffirmed the commitment to allocate all necessary resources to achieve a 'terror-free' Jammu and Kashmir promptly.
The meeting commenced shortly after Shah's visit to the Hiranagar sector of Kathua, where he addressed BSF personnel and inspected border outposts.
Officials noted that the agenda included assessments of current anti-terror operations, the anti-infiltration framework, and strategies to counter drone activities from across the border, especially with intelligence indicating potential terrorist infiltration attempts into India.
On January 14 and 15, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan also conducted a review meeting during his two-day visit.
Shah has reportedly directed a collaborative approach among security forces to ensure the elimination of remaining terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir while maintaining zero infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border.
