Amritsar Law Enforcement Dismantles Cross-Border Drug and Arms Trafficking Ring; 12 Arrested

Chandigarh, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Amritsar Commissionerate Police have successfully dismantled a cross-border drug and arms smuggling ring, resulting in the arrest of 12 individuals, including the ringleader Manjeet Singh, according to the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, on Friday.

The remaining 11 suspects have been identified as Aniket Verma, Jobanpreet Singh, Babli, Harpreet Singh, Amritpal Singh, Reshma, Harshpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Lovepreet Singh, and Akashdeep Singh.

Authorities have seized 2.19 kg of heroin, three advanced pistols (including two automatic firearms), and Rs 2.60 lakh in drug-related cash from the suspects.

DGP Yadav noted that the accused Manjeet, a significant figure in the operation, had direct connections with smugglers and handlers based in Pakistan, receiving shipments of drugs and firearms across the border.

The investigation has revealed that these shipments were being delivered at the Ramdas and Ajnala border sectors with assistance from drones, he mentioned.

The DGP added that further investigations are underway to establish both forward and backward connections related to this case.

Providing additional insights, the Commissioner of Police (Amritsar), Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, indicated that following intelligence regarding Aniket's involvement in drug trafficking, police teams were able to apprehend him. This led to the discovery of the entire network and the capture of kingpin Manjeet, also known as Bhola, along with his accomplices from various locations. Notably, five suspects were arrested from Jammu and Kashmir with the assistance of local law enforcement.

Bhullar further disclosed that Manjeet had been utilizing the residence of an arrested female associate, Babli (an Anganwadi worker), to store the shipments and was employing his accomplices for distribution.

Ongoing investigations aim to expose the complete network, with additional arrests and recoveries expected in the near future.

A case registered on December 24, 2024, has been filed under Sections 21(B) and (C), 27-A, and 29 of the NDPS Act at the Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar.
