An Exceptional Occasion for Global Unity: Diaspora Engagement at the PBD Convention

New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention began with considerable excitement, uniting members of the Indian diaspora from around the world. The event acknowledges the contributions of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to India's growth while promoting stronger bonds.

Delegates from various nations shared their insights on the occasion with IANS.

Vikash Gupta, Director of International Trade at the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the importance of this gathering, stating, "As a Canadian citizen for 16 years and a businessman connecting India and Canada, this platform is vital for nurturing interactions between Indian enterprises and global counterparts at both government and commercial levels."

Jaideep Sharma, a delegate from Melbourne, expressed his pride in participating for the first time. "This gathering is of great importance to us. It’s a privilege to be acknowledged and invited by India, uniting on a single platform. Although I missed the previous day's session, we are wholeheartedly committed to the next two days," he shared.

Debi Das, a delegate from the UK, highlighted the diaspora's eagerness to contribute. "We wish to share our knowledge and expertise gained globally. It’s a proud moment to partake in this celebration," he remarked.

Ajay Rane, a delegate from Australia, reflected on his recognition for women’s empowerment initiatives. "The acknowledgment from PM Modi to the diaspora is significant. Our efforts against female feticide resonate with India’s 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, which has seen remarkable advancements over 30 years," he stated.

Dr Syed N. Masood, a businessman in Saudi Arabia originally from Hyderabad, shared his enduring connection with PBD. "This marks my fifth attendance. It’s heartwarming to see India appreciating NRIs for their substantial financial contributions. The investment prospects and programs introduced for us are admirable," he pointed out.

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention commenced on Wednesday with the inauguration of the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Delegates engaged in several plenary sessions on the inaugural day, focusing on crucial matters concerning the diaspora and India's development.

President Droupadi Murmu will deliver the closing address on January 10, signifying the end of the three-day convention. She will also present the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards, honoring distinguished individuals from the diaspora.

This event continues to reinforce connections, celebrate accomplishments, and create pathways for enhanced collaboration between India and its global diaspora.
