Did the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Just Make History with GST Reforms?

Amaravati, Sep 18 (NationPress) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly made a significant move on Thursday by passing a resolution that applauds Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the revolutionary GST reforms. This achievement marks Andhra Pradesh as the very first state in India to adopt such a resolution.

In his address regarding the resolution, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed that this reform is set to streamline the tax framework, lessen the compliance burden on businesses, enhance transparency, and provide direct advantages to the everyday citizen.

"The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly extends its sincere appreciation and warm congratulations to the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi ji, for the landmark decisions made during the 56th GST Council concerning GST rate rationalization. This visionary initiative to simplify and rationalize the GST framework will result in direct benefits for the common man, alleviate the compliance load on businesses, and promote transparency within the tax system. The reforms enacted over the past 11 years under the Prime Minister's guidance have considerably advanced welfare and development, and we are now on the brink of next-generation reforms," the resolution states.

According to Naidu, "This historic reform will further bolster cooperative federalism, enhance the ease and speed of business operations, and support sectors that are labor-intensive. It will stimulate consumption, attract investment, and contribute to the ongoing growth trajectory of our nation's economy. These reforms will pave the way for the growth of Indian enterprises, fostering a culture of 'Swadeshi' consumption. In the future, this will elevate Indian brands to a global platform."

He also extended gratitude to the Hon'ble Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Seetharaman ji for her outstanding leadership in achieving consensus within the GST council for these reforms. The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly wholeheartedly welcomes this reform and pledges its full support for its successful execution for the collective good of the populace and the economy," he elaborated.

Naidu believes that these GST reforms will be advantageous for all demographics across the nation and play a vital role in achieving double-digit growth.

He anticipates that the GST reforms could enhance the Indian economy by approximately Rs 2 lakh crore.

He stated that the GST reforms present an opportunity for citizens to celebrate upcoming festivals such as Dasara and Diwali in a genuine spirit with lower prices on essential goods. He emphasized that the 5-tier GST reforms will eliminate complexities in the tax framework, ensuring no undue harassment from officials as they are structured more transparently.

The Chief Minister announced plans to establish a cabinet sub-committee to devise an action plan that promotes awareness regarding the GST reforms.

He urged that the GST reforms should be envisioned as an opportunity to achieve a 15 percent growth rate in Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, he proposed organizing a GST awareness campaign from September 22 to October 20 throughout the state. While presenting the benefits of GST reforms via a PowerPoint presentation, Naidu expressed his commitment to be at the forefront of technological and economic reforms.

He pointed out that the reduction in GST from 28 percent to 12 percent and from 18 percent to 0 percent on certain essential goods reflects the Prime Minister’s dedication to safeguarding the interests of the common man. He reiterated that the GST reforms will positively impact all 140 crore citizens.

Naidu asserted that the bold reforms initiated by PM Modi will resonate in every household through lower prices while simultaneously instilling confidence in business owners through increased economic activity and purchasing power.

He added that the reduction in GST rates will facilitate growth in sectors such as health, agriculture, dairy, education, and more. Despite some concerns raised by the Finance Department regarding the GST reforms, he welcomed them with a vision of one nation–one vision for the nation’s development.

Expressing his disappointment over the absence of YSRCP MLAs during the Assembly session, the Chief Minister remarked that political parties should collaborate for societal benefit. He deemed it unfortunate that YSRCP MLAs did not attend to endorse the GST reforms, stressing that all MLAs should participate in Assembly sessions as it represents 5 crore citizens. He urged them to raise awareness among the public regarding the benefits of the GST reforms.
