Are Coastal States Paving the Way for India’s Blue Economy Vision with Andhra Pradesh Leading?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) With coastal states at the forefront of the Blue Economy initiative and industrial corridors enhancing advanced manufacturing, Andhra Pradesh is set to play a pivotal role in India’s roadmap towards Viksit Bharat 2047, stated Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday.
The Union Budget 2026–27 concretizes this vision by prioritizing fisheries, marine exports, coastal infrastructure, and ocean-centric economic activities within India’s long-term growth framework, he remarked.
In light of global economic fluctuations, India has opted for a strategy of stability, transparency, and sustained investment-driven growth, Singh mentioned during an event in Vijayawada.
“Permitting deep-sea fishing within India’s Exclusive Economic Zone and recognizing fish landings at international ports as exports will greatly boost the income potential of fishermen,” he highlighted.
This policy transformation enhances food security, elevates export competitiveness, and firmly establishes India as a blue ocean nation.
“Andhra Pradesh, with its extensive coastline and developed aquaculture ecosystem, stands to benefit significantly from these initiatives,” said the minister.
Additionally, the modernization of reservoirs, reinforcement of coastal fisheries infrastructure, cold chain networks, and processing facilities will facilitate the creation of a cohesive marine economy framework.
He associated the Blue Economy mission with complementary strategic industrial corridors being constructed nationwide.
In Andhra Pradesh, the Rare Earth and Critical Minerals Corridor will position the state at the forefront of next-generation manufacturing, renewable energy components, and advanced materials. Simultaneously, industrial corridors along the eastern coast will enhance logistics integration and participation in the global supply chain.
The establishment of specialized corridors, including advanced energy and mineral value chains, aligns with India’s maritime and export aspirations.
The integration of ports, container manufacturing, rail connectivity, and industrial clusters will forge a seamless economic architecture linking coastlines to manufacturing hubs, Singh explained.
The minister further emphasized that the Budget merges productivity, resilience, and inclusivity while ensuring fiscal discipline and sustaining high levels of capital expenditure.
“Andhra Pradesh’s involvement encompasses fisheries and ports, industrial corridors, digital infrastructure, mineral value chains, and agricultural exports, making it a vital contributor to India’s growth narrative,” he added.
