Amaravati, June 9 (NationPress) The government of Andhra Pradesh has set an ambitious goal to finalize 1,040 km of road construction by the year 2025.
With a budget of Rs 20,067 crore, these initiatives are anticipated to greatly enhance road connectivity and infrastructure within the state.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to address all challenges pertaining to land acquisition, as well as forest and wildlife clearances for both ongoing and future state and national highway projects by the end of July. He emphasized the importance of uninterrupted and swift progress in road projects throughout the state.
During a review meeting at the Secretariat on Monday with senior officials and contractors to evaluate the current status of road infrastructure projects, he expressed his disappointment over the delays affecting certain projects, making it clear that no further postponements in road construction would be tolerated.
Officials reported to the Chief Minister that 770 km of roads were completed in the last financial year under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), totaling Rs 11,325 crore.
As of now, Andhra Pradesh boasts a total of 8,744 kilometers of national highways. Among these, 4,406 km fall under the NHAI, 641 km are overseen by the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) under the MoRTH, and 3,697 km are maintained by the NH (R&B) wing.
Currently, 144 road projects with a combined length of 3,483 km are underway in the state, initiated under the NHAI and the MoRTH at an estimated cost of Rs 76,856 crore. In addition to these, many more projects are set to commence soon.
Out of the 3,483 km in progress, 1,392 km are NHAI roads, whereas 2,091 km are part of the MoRTH portfolio.
The “Mission Pothole-Free Roads,” launched by the Chief Minister last November with a budget of Rs 860.81 crore, has reached 97 percent completion as of June 6, according to officials.
A total of 19,475 km of roads have been repaired and potholes filled. The remaining repairs are projected to be completed by July 31, they added.
