Anna University Student Assaulted on Campus; Police Launch Investigation

Chennai, Dec 25 (NationPress) A student from Anna University was reportedly assaulted by two men within the campus grounds early Wednesday morning, according to police reports.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kotturpuram, is currently looking into the matter following the filing of an FIR under Section 64 of the BNSS Act, which pertains to rape cases.

As per police accounts, the incident transpired when the victim and her male companion were resting in a secluded area of the campus after attending a midnight Christmas mass at a nearby church. The assailants attacked the male companion, subjecting him to a brutal assault before dragging the girl into some nearby shrubs and raping her.

BJP state President K. Annamalai has called for the immediate apprehension of the suspects. He stated, "Tamil Nadu, under the DMK government, has become a breeding ground for unlawful activities and a haven for criminals. Women don’t feel safe in the state anymore, as the police are occupied by the ruling administration to silence the opposition," in a post on X.

The Greater Chennai Police have faced significant backlash following this incident. Authorities had previously claimed to have implemented foolproof security measures for Christmas celebrations, with over 8,000 personnel deployed.

According to police sources, inquiries have been conducted with the survivor and her friend, and an investigation is actively progressing.

This horrific incident arrives amidst ongoing criticism of the DMK government regarding the state’s law and order situation.

In another case, a third-year college student with mental health issues was reportedly raped by a group of 10 men over ten months.

So far, four suspects have been apprehended.

The situation came to light when the victim’s father, a single parent working as a load man, lodged a complaint at the Chintadripet All Women Police Station, which was later moved to the Egmore Police Station.

The father discovered inappropriate material on his daughter’s phone and confronted her. Initially hesitant, the girl eventually disclosed that she had been repeatedly raped by a group of men who took her to various lodges and secluded locations.

Based on the survivor’s statement, police have registered a case under nine sections, including those addressing the rape of women with mental or physical disabilities and kidnapping.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the survivor met three of the suspects through a mutual college friend in October of the previous year. The men allegedly raped her in various locations. She also reported being assaulted by others she met via a social networking application.
