BJP Intensifies Protests in Tamil Nadu Over Anna University Assault Incident

Chennai, Jan 1 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu BJP is stepping up its demonstrations against the DMK and its administration regarding the Anna University rape incident.
It has been noted that a second-year engineering student from Anna University was reportedly assaulted on Christmas Eve. The victim stated in her police report that the assailant attacked her male companion, forcibly took her to a nearby isolated area, and assaulted her.
The women’s wing of the Tamil Nadu BJP plans to organize a protest march from Madurai to Chennai on January 3.
Umarathi Rajan, the state president of the party’s women’s wing, will spearhead the march. Officials from the organization will meet with Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi to present a formal memorandum regarding the situation.
In the meantime, BJP leader and former Governor of Telangana and Puducherry, Tamilisai Soundararajan, has arrived in New Delhi to submit a report on the Anna University rape case to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
She will also confer with BJP national president J.P. Nadda to inform him about the concerns expressed by the residents of Tamil Nadu regarding the assault on the second-year engineering student at Anna University.
Moreover, the Tamil Nadu BJP president, K.Annamalai, staged a striking protest outside his residence in Coimbatore, where he self-flagellated six times to symbolize the worsening law and order situation in Tamil Nadu and to raise awareness about the sexual assault of the Anna University student.
Annamalai also declared a 48-day fasting initiative and plans to visit all six sacred sites of Lord Murugan as part of his protest.
The Tamil Nadu BJP president criticized the Tamil Nadu Police for leaking the FIR in the sexual assault case, asserting that the leak irresponsibly revealed the identity of the 19-year-old victim, an engineering student at Anna University.
He alleged that the accused, Gnanashekaran, was not included on the Tamil Nadu Police’s rowdy list despite being involved in multiple cases, attributing this oversight to his connections with DMK leaders.
Annamalai accused the DMK of attempting to divert attention from the deteriorating law and order situation by fabricating a false narrative of a North-South divide.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) is set to deliver a report to the Centre regarding the sexual assault case. NCW member Mamta Kumari and her team recently returned to Delhi after conducting a two-day investigation into the incident that occurred on the Anna University campus.
Speaking to reporters at Chennai airport, Mamta Kumari stated, “We thoroughly examined every corner of Anna University and conducted a comprehensive investigation. We met with the victim and her family, gathering all essential information. We also engaged with the Governor of Tamil Nadu to discuss the issue.”
She further remarked, “A detailed report on our findings will be submitted to the Central government by the National Commission for Women. Anyone found guilty will face severe repercussions. It is shocking that the accused was permitted to roam free despite having over 20 pending cases against him.”
Mamta Kumari also questioned, “Why did the government not take action sooner? The Central government will ensure that strict measures are enacted against anyone who perpetrates crimes against women.” She expressed optimism that justice would prevail and that the guilty parties would be held accountable.
