Karnataka BJP Backs K. Annamalai's Whiplash Protest in Anna University Rape Case

Bengaluru, Dec 28 (NationPress) Criticizing the backlash against the whiplash protest led by Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai, the Karnataka BJP asserted that Annamalai's symbolic act of inflicting lashes on himself with a whip represents his profound belief in divine justice, aimed at condemning the DMK government's failure to act.

Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra remarked on Friday, “The Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai has shown immense faith and commitment through his symbolic protest regarding the vile incident of rape involving a student at Anna University, Tamil Nadu.”

“By highlighting his convictions, he has drawn attention to the ‘arrogant and uncaring’ attitude of the ruling DMK government, which has neglected to pursue legal action against the accused,” Vijayendra added.

This distinct and heartfelt protest has faced ridicule from certain detractors. However, it is crucial for everyone to support such an innovative and meaningful method of advocating for justice for the victim and upholding women's dignity, he asserted.

“It is equally vital to condemn the remarks and behavior of those who mock such genuine efforts. Annamalai has pledged to forgo footwear until the DMK government is removed from power in Tamil Nadu. We should all hope for the success of this unwavering fight for justice,” he stated.

Vijayendra expressed that this courageous struggle against the oppressive DMK government in Tamil Nadu reflects the BJP’s dedication to achieving justice and protecting women’s rights.

Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai symbolically lashed himself six times with a whip on Friday morning at his residence in Coimbatore.

This act was part of a personal protest against the sexual assault of an Anna University student. Annamalai had declared on Thursday that he would whip himself as a symbolic gesture of protest against the incident.

He also vowed to go without slippers until the DMK government is ousted from power in Tamil Nadu.

The BJP leader announced that he would pray at all six temples of Lord Muruga, the revered war deity in southern India.

The former IPS officer has been leading the Tamil Nadu BJP with an assertive approach and has been outspoken in his criticism of the ruling DMK government.

Annamalai condemned the police for leaking the FIR related to the sexual assault case, which led to the identification of the 19-year-old victim, who is an engineering student at Anna University.

He accused the authorities of deliberately leaking the details and failing to ensure the safety and anonymity of the survivor.

The BJP president further alleged that the accused, Gnanashekaran, was not listed as a rowdy by the police despite being involved in multiple criminal cases.

He claimed that this exclusion was due to Gnanashekaran's close connections with DMK leaders and also provided evidence regarding the accused's affiliation with the ruling party.
