Chennai, Aug 20 (NationPress) Following the announcement by Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin expressing support for the INDIA bloc’s Vice-Presidential nominee B. Sudershan Reddy, former BJP state president K. Annamalai has urged him to rethink this position and lend his backing to the NDA candidate, CP Radhakrishnan.
While speaking to journalists after honoring former Nagaland governor La. Ganesan at his residence in T. Nagar, Annamalai stated, “C.P. Radhakrishnan has been put forward as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Alliance. He is capable of bringing dignity and esteem to this office. Our party wishes for all of Tamil Nadu to rally behind him. Historically, even members of Shiv Sena supported Pratibha Patil for the presidency. We hope all political factions will unite in support of Radhakrishnan, transcending political divides. The Chief Minister still has an opportunity to reassess his decision. This moment allows the DMK to demonstrate its commitment to the Tamil people.”
The BJP leader also responded to inquiries regarding a recently proposed bill that would mandate the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or ministers from their positions if they are incarcerated for over 30 days. Annamalai clarified, “This rule applies to anyone who has taken an oath of office. It is not aimed at any specific person. The legislation aims to solidify public trust in democracy by ensuring that convicted individuals cannot remain in power.”
Regarding the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) forthcoming second state conference in Madurai, Annamalai remarked that every party holds the right to organize events. “They may pursue their agenda, but ultimately, voters will place greater confidence in the BJP’s principles and policies,” he asserted. With political momentum gaining around the Vice-Presidential election, Annamalai’s plea highlights the BJP’s efforts to secure wider regional support for Radhakrishnan, an experienced leader hailing from Tamil Nadu, in opposition to the INDIA bloc’s nominee.
His statements further emphasize the BJP’s strategy to frame this election as one that showcases Tamil pride and representation on a national scale.
