Chennai, June 3 (NationPress) Former Tamil Nadu BJP president, K. Annamalai, has vehemently criticized the DMK government, alleging a calculated effort to protect key individuals implicated in the notorious Anna University sexual assault case. He is demanding accountability and has set a 48-hour deadline for the state to address a series of pressing inquiries.
In a video shared on his X account, Annamalai pointed out that despite the conviction of the accused, several vital questions surrounding the case remain unresolved.
The Mahila Court in Chennai recently sentenced Gnanasekar, the convict, to life imprisonment for a minimum of 30 years without the possibility of remission.
Annamalai claims that shortly after the crime occurred in 2023, Gnanasekar reached out to a Tamil Nadu police officer and a DMK functionary.
He further alleged that the call detail records (CDRs) from both Gnanasekar and the unnamed DMK official indicate communication between them immediately after the incident.
"The government cannot conceal this behind legal loopholes or threats of contempt. The public deserves to know who was contacted and the reasons for those communications in the aftermath of such a horrific crime that has shaken the state's conscience," Annamalai stated.
He has warned that if the government does not provide an adequate response within 48 hours, he will disclose the identities of the police officers allegedly in touch with the convict and the DMK functionary.
Annamalai's comments arise amid significant public concern regarding the case's management, particularly allegations of political interference and procedural discrepancies during the investigation.
While women's rights advocates have welcomed the court's decision, doubts remain about the investigation's impartiality.
The DMK government, which has yet to respond to Annamalai's allegations, is now under increasing pressure to address the claims made by the BJP leader.
