Another ISKCON Temple Set Ablaze in Bangladesh: Officials Report
Kolkata, Dec 7 (NationPress) A tragic event has unfolded as yet another temple affiliated with the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has been destroyed by fire in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as reported by Radharaman Das, the vice-president and spokesperson for ISKCON-Kolkata, on Saturday.
“Another ISKCON Namahatta Centre has been completely consumed by flames in Bangladesh. The sacred deities and all items within the temple were entirely destroyed. This centre is situated in Dhaka,” Das stated.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.
“The assailants ignited the Radha Krishna Temple and the Mahabhagya Lakshmi Narayan Temple, which are part of the Hare Krishna Namhatta Sangha, located in Dhour village, under the jurisdiction of Turag Police Station in Dhaka district,” Das explained.
He further mentioned that the fire was started by lifting the roof from the back of the temple. “It appears that petrol or octane was used to fuel the flames,” said Das.
Condemning this act, Sukanta Majumdar, the BJP’s state president in West Bengal and Union minister of state, described it as an unforgivable act of hatred against a sacred place.
“Swift action must be taken to bring those responsible to justice and to ensure the safety of religious minorities,” Majumdar asserted.
Earlier this month, Das criticized international peace organizations for their apparent indifference towards the ongoing attacks and atrocities faced by minority Hindus in Bangladesh.
Recently, while speaking in the West Bengal Assembly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called for the intervention of the United Nations (UN) in Bangladesh. She also proposed that the Union government consider deploying peacekeeping forces in Bangladesh in light of UN intervention.
However, the West Bengal Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, dismissed her proposals as yet another instance of her contradictory stance.
“The Chief Minister suggested in the assembly that peacekeeping forces be sent to Bangladesh. What was her police doing when extremists were disrupting Hindu religious festivities in various areas of the state? Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh and Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal are one and the same,” the LoP remarked.
