Andhra Pradesh took a significant step in its clean energy ambitions on Tuesday, 25 August, as State Minister Nara Lokesh inaugurated 1,325 MW of wind energy projects in Anantapur, backed by an investment of ₹10,500 crore and projected to generate 1,600 direct and indirect jobs. The development reinforces the State's positioning as one of India's leading renewable energy destinations.

What Was Inaugurated

Alongside the wind energy projects, Minister Lokesh also inaugurated an expanded smart blade manufacturing facility in Anantapur, which now includes two additional production lines. The facility, with an annual production capacity of 1,260 MW, currently supports more than 1,200 direct and indirect green jobs, according to State officials.

Lokesh, who also holds the portfolio of Human Resources Development and IT, described the groundbreaking as 'another important milestone,' citing growing confidence among leading renewable energy companies in Andhra Pradesh's policy environment and investment ecosystem.

What Chief Minister Naidu Said

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu posted on X expressing his satisfaction at the scale of the new projects. 'My association with renewable energy goes back many years, to my friendship with its visionary pioneers. They believed deeply in the future of renewable energy long before it became a global imperative,' Naidu wrote, adding that he recalled their 'faith in Andhra Pradesh and their commitment to building here with warmth.'

Noting that the new projects would create thousands of livelihoods, Naidu said: 'Andhra Pradesh will continue to honour long-standing partnerships, keep its commitments, and build a clean, sustainable energy future for generations to come.'

Scale of Investment and Execution

The State has so far catalysed approximately ₹15,500 crore of total investment in the renewable energy sector and is currently executing around 1,600 MW of wind projects. The Anantapur corridor has emerged as a central node in this buildout, given its favourable wind conditions and existing manufacturing infrastructure.

This comes amid a broader national push to scale up non-fossil fuel capacity, with several states competing to attract large-scale renewable energy investment ahead of India's 2030 clean energy targets.

Green Skilling and Workforce Development

Beyond infrastructure, Andhra Pradesh is investing in workforce readiness for the energy transition. The State is training 12,000 young people — including 3,000 women — through dedicated skill development labs in Uravakonda and Vijayawada. Officials say the green skilling initiative is designed to ensure that employment benefits from renewable energy projects flow to local communities rather than relying on imported labour.

What Comes Next

With the expanded manufacturing facility operational and new wind capacity in the pipeline, Andhra Pradesh is expected to further consolidate its standing in India's renewable energy map. Long-term partnership commitments from major energy companies, combined with the State's skilling push, suggest the current momentum could attract additional investment rounds in the near term.
