Amaravati, Jan 29 (NationPress) Andhra Pradesh is set to make history as the first state in India to roll out WhatsApp governance, offering 161 online services starting from January 30 (Thursday).
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu conducted a review meeting at the state Secretariat on Wednesday, where he declared that citizens will no longer need to visit government offices for certificates.
He also emphasized the importance of protecting citizen data from cybercriminals and instructed officials to implement measures for enhanced security, particularly in the realms of forensic and cyber safety.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister noted that the state government had reached an agreement with Meta on October 22 of the previous year, paving the way for this WhatsApp governance initiative, aimed at accelerating public service delivery as the state aspires to lead in digital technology.
Nara Lokesh, the Minister for Information Technology (IT) and Electronics, will formally launch the WhatsApp governance program on Thursday.
Accompanying him at the review meeting were Chief Secretary K. Vijayananad and other officials. Previously, a PowerPoint presentation highlighted how users can access WhatsApp services.
While 161 services will be available at the outset, the government plans to introduce more options soon. Initial services will cover various departments, including Endowments, Energy, APSRTC, Revenue, Anna Canteens, CMRF, and Municipal Administration.
An official WhatsApp number, which will be verified, will be announced for accessing these services. The government will also disseminate information such as advisories and weather alerts through this platform.
