Key Takeaways
Guwahati, March 17 (NationPress) To enhance readiness for the upcoming monsoon season, the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) collaborated on a joint flood relief training exercise named 'Jal Raksha' in the Rupai area of Assam, as reported by officials on Tuesday.
This two-day drill, conducted on March 16–17 under the supervision of the Spear Corps, saw significant involvement from the Army's Red Shield Gunners alongside NDRF teams, concentrating on improving inter-agency collaboration and operational readiness for flood emergencies.
The training kicked off with a showcase of equipment and a comprehensive briefing from the Indian Army regarding the structure, function, and operational capabilities of Flood Relief Columns.
NDRF representatives also provided insights into the framework, duties, and operational procedures of their flood response teams.
Participants received hands-on experience with flood relief tools and rescue methods, aimed at familiarizing them with Standard Operating Procedures during emergencies.
On the second day, field exercises took place at Rupai and Tengapani Ghat, where teams performed ground and drone-assisted aerial reconnaissance, set up a Joint Command Post, and carried out coordinated rescue drills and casualty evacuations that simulated actual flood situations.
NDRF members exhibited essential techniques, including boat capsize drills and safe evacuation methods, while Army medical teams demonstrated first aid and emergency medical responses in disaster scenarios.
Additionally, NCC cadets and local community members participated in the exercise, gaining valuable insights into disaster response operations and observing the collaborative efforts of various agencies.
“The Jal Raksha exercise signifies our dedication to maintaining high preparedness levels and effective coordination with partner organizations like the NDRF. Such collaborative endeavors are critical for ensuring a rapid and effective response during flood emergencies, particularly in flood-prone areas like Assam,” stated the Defence PRO in Guwahati.
Officials emphasized that initiatives like this are instrumental in bolstering operational synergy, enhancing response efficiency, and safeguarding lives and property during natural calamities.
