Lucknow, April 18 (NationPress) In a major action against organized crime, the Lucknow Police have apprehended Atika, the purported leader of an intricate 'honey trap' syndicate on Saturday. This arrest comes after a thorough investigation into the distressing abduction and sexual assault of a 16-year-old boy, coupled with an attempted extortion scheme.

The incident was brought to light when the victim's mother, Asma Khan, lodged a formal complaint regarding her son, Ibrahim (name changed), a student in Class 9, who went missing on February 17. Investigations indicated that Atika, the sister-in-law of one of Ibrahim's friends, deceived the minor and forcibly transported him to the hill station of Nainital.

During the trip, the suspect allegedly seized the boy's mobile phone and destroyed his SIM card to cut off any contact with his family. While at a hotel in Nainital, the victim faced multiple instances of sexual assault. Atika reportedly captured compromising photos and videos of the minor, which she planned to use for extensive blackmail.

When the police located the boy on February 21, he informed his family that Atika had initiated a continuous blackmail campaign.

Using various social media channels and disposable phone numbers, she demanded a staggering amount of Rs 10 lakh from the boy’s family.

Atika threatened to share the sensitive videos and images and to frame the minor and his family with false legal charges if her monetary demands went unmet.

Additionally, Atika is accused of manipulating the victim’s passport, changing his birth date to misrepresent him as an adult, thereby attempting to mislead law enforcement and evade the stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Following Asma Khan's complaint submitted on April 5, the Thakurganj Police undertook a comprehensive investigation. To establish the victim's age and counter the accused's claims, the family provided the authorities with the boy's Aadhaar Card, original school documents, and legitimate passport.

The police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) under various serious sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and specialized laws. Charges include rape, sexual assault, and violations of the POCSO Act, in addition to extortion, criminal intimidation, and forgery of official documents. While the investigation is ongoing, authorities are also examining various counterclaims regarding the case.

In an effort to protect herself from legal repercussions, Atika previously filed a written complaint against the minor and several other youths, accusing them of misconduct. However, investigators have labeled this as a common diversionary tactic in honey trap schemes. Station Officer Ravindra Kumar has been designated as the lead investigator for this case.

The police are currently probing the broader network of the gang to ascertain whether there are additional victims subjected to similar extortion methods. Atika remains in custody as legal proceedings continue in the Lucknow court.
