Hyderabad, July 25 (NationPress) The Cyberabad police have successfully apprehended one of the most sought-after Maoist leaders in the region. Acting on reliable intelligence, officers from the Miyapur Police Station detained Narla Sri Vidya, a State Committee Member of CPI (Maoist), at New Hafeezpet in Hyderabad on Thursday, as reported by the police on Friday.
This detained woman Maoist leader was known by several aliases, including Karuna, Rupa, and Rupi.
She was also part of the Dandakarnya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) and the Education Department Committee (EDC).
According to authorities, Narla Sri Vidya originates from Tirumalapuram village in the Pedda Kothapally mandal of Nagarkurnool district in Telangana and holds a B.Tech degree from JNTU, Hyderabad.
Her family includes a retired teacher father, two brothers, and a sister. Her brother, Narla Ravi Sharma, who is also linked to the Maoist movement, was arrested back in 2009, and her sister, Narla Sridevi, was active in the Maoist party.
Narla Sri Vidya is married to Takkallapally Vasudeva Rao, also known as Ashanna or Satish, a state committee member of DKSZC and a key suspect in the murder of IPS officer Umesh Chandra along with involvement in the Alipiri bomb blast.
Police revealed that Narla Sri Vidya joined the CPI (ML) in 1992, influenced by her brother, Narla Ravi Sharma. Initially, she was involved with Chaitanya Mahila Samakhya, a front for the banned CPI (ML), PWG, before becoming an underground member of the banned CPI (Maoist) party in 2006.
She actively spread the party's ideology among innocent tribal youth in the Visakhapatnam, Malkangiri, and Koraput districts, resulting in many tribal children from the Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada, Bijapur, and Sukuma districts of Chhattisgarh joining the outlawed CPI (Maoist).
Her rise within the ranks saw her attain the positions of Area Committee Member (ACM), Divisional Committee Member (DCM), and State Committee Member (SCM). She was implicated in a criminal conspiracy case reported at the L.B Nagar police station in Hyderabad in 2019.
Authorities indicated that Narla Sri Vidya had a reward of ₹5 lakh placed on her capture.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty commended the efforts of the Miyapur police.
