Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Sunday, 3 May inaugurated the newly constructed Arunachal Niwas at Dheerpur, New Delhi, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union government for sustained infrastructure support to the northeastern state. Under the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission, Arunachal Pradesh has received approximately ₹4,900 crore, which the state government says will be channelled toward bridging critical infrastructure gaps.

A Fourth Property in the National Capital

The inauguration of Arunachal Niwas at Dheerpur marks a significant milestone, giving Arunachal Pradesh its fourth property in New Delhi. Chief Minister Khandu described the addition as a reflection of the state government's decade-long focus on establishing support infrastructure beyond its borders. Similar facilities have already been developed in Guwahati, Tezpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh — all in Assam — as well as in Bodh Gaya, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, providing accommodation and essential services to residents and travellers from Arunachal Pradesh.

Who the Facility Serves

Addressing attendees at the inauguration, Khandu underscored the facility's importance for two key groups: patients travelling to Delhi for medical treatment, and students visiting the capital for university admissions. The new Arunachal Niwas includes dedicated provisions for patients, making it particularly valuable for those seeking medical assistance. Its location near the North Campus area of Delhi University also positions it as a safe and accessible base for students during admission seasons.

Facility Details

Spread across 2,600 sq. m. with a total built-up area of 7,198 sq. m., the G-plus-Eight building features 8 dormitories with 6 beds each, 18 double-bedded rooms, 35 twin-bedded rooms, and 6 specially designed handicap-friendly rooms. It also includes a separate staff dormitory, adequate office space, spacious basement and multi-floor parking, a medical room, and a dining hall. The design reflects an emphasis on accessibility and operational efficiency.

District Infrastructure Review on the Agenda

Beyond the inauguration, Khandu announced that a comprehensive review of newly created districts — including Pakke-Kessang, Kamle, Lepa-Rada, Shi-Yomi, and others — has been scheduled to assess infrastructure gaps and manpower requirements. He added that older districts would undergo similar reviews to ensure balanced and inclusive development across the state. The Chief Minister also advised officials to explore sustainable revenue generation avenues for the long-term operational viability of state-run facilities.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha MP Nabam Rebia, state ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Secretary, senior officials, and members of the Arunachal Pradesh community based in Delhi.
