New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday emphasized that the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav in Delhi highlights the vibrant textile sector of northeastern India, the opportunities in tourism, and the rich traditional craftsmanship, referencing a piece authored by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The official handle of the Prime Minister’s Office posted on X: “Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia elaborates that the Northeastern region of India is experiencing significant growth due to enhanced connectivity, digital inclusion, and infrastructure investments. The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav in Delhi celebrates the Northeast's vibrant textile sector, tourism opportunities, and traditional craftsmanship.”

Scindia stated on X: “The Northeastern region of India, which once suffered from neglect and the inefficiencies of past governments, is now a pivotal contributor to the Viksit Bharat mission, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Our administration has transformed the North East into the ‘Growth Engine of India’, characterized by its diverse culture and economic prospects,” he added while discussing the ongoing Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav in the national capital over the weekend.

The event, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, aims to highlight the region's textile industry, artisanal crafts, and unique geographical indication (GI) products.

The Prime Minister toured several pavilions and engaged with artisans and craftsmen showcasing their creations, underlining the cultural richness and economic potential of the region.

The eight northeastern states—Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim—are collectively known as the 'Ashtalaxmi' or the eight forms of prosperity.

Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Sukanta Majumdar made an unexpected appearance on the runway at the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav fashion show on Saturday. The ministers, donning traditional northeastern-style jackets, walked the ramp to promote the region's colorful fashion.

The fashion show was part of the three-day Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, which celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Northeast India.

Scindia, who is also the Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, stated that the event was a celebration of culture and creativity.

"I had an incredible time at the fashion show that showcased the vibrant styles of Northeast India! Each state was wonderfully represented by talented artists and models," he shared on X along with pictures of himself on the ramp.

The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav includes a variety of events, such as artisan exhibitions, state-specific pavilions, technical sessions, and investor meetings. The goal of the event is to foster economic opportunities in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, agricultural products, and tourism.

This festival also highlights the region's rich cultural heritage through lively musical performances and indigenous cuisines. With its vibrant blend of culture, creativity, and economic opportunities, the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav is envisioned as a flagship event for Northeast India.
