Dispur, April 9 (NationPress) As the Assam Assembly elections commenced, key leaders and candidates from both the BJP and Congress participated in the voting process on Thursday. They conveyed their optimism regarding securing victory and encouraged citizens to actively engage in the democratic framework.
Pradyut Bordoloi, a former MP and the BJP candidate for Dispur, cast his vote at the northern section of the Marikalong High School polling station. In a statement to the media, he remarked, “Having just voted, I was unable to transfer my voting rights when I chose to contest from Dispur, hence my presence here today.”
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi also made his mark at the polls, sharing his positive outlook on his party's chances.
“We are poised to establish a renewed Assam. On attaining power, we commit to safeguarding Assam’s rich traditions and culture while also addressing the issue of migration,” he asserted.
Another Congress MP, Rakibul Hussain, mentioned that he voted alongside his family.
“I am here to fulfill my democratic responsibility. I refrain from making any statements that contradict the democratic ethos,” he stated.
Rajdeep Goala, the BJP candidate for the Udharbond constituency, expressed his support for voter turnout and urged everyone to participate.
“I call upon all citizens to exercise their democratic rights. I am hopeful that Assam will continue its developmental trajectory and that voters will back the BJP for the state's advancement,” he expressed.
Indranil Pegu, the Congress candidate from Majuli, referred to the polling day as a celebration of democracy.
“Today reflects a joyous occasion for our democracy, as citizens are stepping out in significant numbers to cast their votes,” he remarked.
BJP candidate Bolin Chetia from Sadiya expressed confidence in the party's support.
“The youth of Assam stands with the BJP, as they believe in the government's initiatives,” he stated.
BJP leader Manab Deka underscored the festive spirit surrounding the elections.
“The elections in Assam are akin to a festival. I wish everyone well and encourage all citizens to participate in the voting process,” he said, while also apologizing for any past remarks made during campaigning.
Kunki Chowdhary, representing the AJP (Congress alliance), highlighted the necessity for change.
“People are mobilizing to effect genuine change. To alter the system, one must engage with it,” he emphasized.
Mridul Kumar Dutta, a BJP candidate, expressed his delight in casting his vote for the first time as a candidate, praising the substantial voter turnout. Surya Rongphar, another BJP candidate, echoed his confidence, noting that the public's enthusiasm suggests strong backing for the party.
Atul Bora, the NDA candidate from Bokakhat, described the day as significant. “We have exerted considerable effort to reach this point. It’s heartening to witness enthusiastic participation from women and young voters. Voting represents both a constitutional and democratic right,” he concluded.
