Assam: Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Government to Commemorate Fourth Anniversary

Guwahati, Dec 12 (NationPress) The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government, under the guidance of Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro, is poised to celebrate a remarkable milestone, recognizing its fourth anniversary with a two-day event scheduled for the 14th and 15th of December 2024, under the theme ‘Regaining Sustainable Peace, Harmony, and Integrity’, as announced by officials on Thursday.
The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is an autonomous area within Assam, nestled at the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan. It comprises five districts situated on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, governed by the Bodoland Territorial Council, an elected body formed in accordance with a peace agreement established in February 2003. An additional agreement reached in January 2020 further expanded its jurisdiction.
The population of the region predominantly consists of the Bodo community and other Indigenous groups of Assam, spanning over 9,000 square kilometers.
The festivities will not only celebrate the region's accomplishments under the current administration but will also cast a vision for a brighter, more prosperous future for the residents of BTR.
According to an official announcement, on December 14th, government offices, educational institutions, and Block Development Offices throughout the region will engage in various activities aimed at fostering community involvement and promoting collective responsibility.
The day will commence with the ‘My Bodoland, Clean Bodoland’ initiative, featuring a Safai Abhiyan (Cleanliness Drive) across the area. Local leaders, including EMs, MCLAs, TCLLC, and VCDC members, along with government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders, will take part in this significant event.
A seminar themed ‘My Bodoland, Peaceful Bodoland’ will also be conducted, featuring keynote speeches by notable citizens and experts. These discussions will provide insights into sustainable peace, highlighting the BTR Government’s vision of a “Peaceful, Smart, and Green Bodoland”.
The grand celebration on December 15th will occur at the Bhergaon Mini Stadium in Udalguri, BTR. The event will also recognize partner agencies for their outstanding contributions to the development of BTR.
This two-day celebration not only offers a chance to reflect on the progress achieved over the past four years but also reaffirms BTR’s commitment to fostering peace, unity, and sustainable development in the region.
