Guwahati, July 7 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commenced a five-day visit to the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) on Monday, launching the BJP's ambitious "Mission BTR" aimed at enhancing development and strengthening party support in anticipation of the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.
Speaking at a large rally at Green Field in Kokrajhar, the headquarters of BTR, Sarma expressed confidence in the BJP's stronghold in the region, stating, "Congress has no presence here. Congress belongs in Pakistan."
This statement was met with enthusiastic applause from attendees, highlighting the BJP's assertive approach as the election season nears. Sarma pointed out the success of the BJP-led government in restoring peace in BTR following the 2020 BTR peace accord.
"The last five years were about establishing peace - no encounters, no bomb blasts. The next five years will focus on comprehensive development for every community," he declared.
Reiterating the party's electoral aspirations, he remarked, "We are not here to lose. We are here to win for peace, development, and the welfare of BTR’s people."
The rally saw participation from state BJP chief Dilip Saikia, Minister Ashok Singhal, and several BTC leaders, emphasizing the party's intent to consolidate its influence in BTR.
Sarma laid out a two-fold strategy: winning the BTC elections and preparing for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. "After BTC, we will shift full focus to 2026. Our goal is clear - to form the government again," he asserted.
Later, he chaired a review meeting at the Kokrajhar District Commissioner’s office to evaluate the implementation of state welfare initiatives, reinforcing the BJP’s development-focused agenda.
With "Mission BTR," the BJP aims to establish itself as the primary force for stability and progress in the region, minimizing the space available for opposition parties in its political strategy.
