Guwahati, Aug 7 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to make a significant impact in the forthcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections.
During a campaign stop in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Sarma informed the press that the party has been met with considerable enthusiasm from the electorate.
“I have toured various constituencies in the Bodoland area over the last few days. To date, I have participated in events in at least 12 constituencies, and the level of public support for the BJP has been overwhelming. In Dotma today, the attendance was remarkable, and I felt truly delighted to witness such a gathering,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister asserted that the current political climate strongly favors the BJP.
“If the elections were conducted today, the BJP would secure a remarkable performance in the BTR,” he stated with assurance.
Sarma mentioned that he intends to visit all 40 constituencies in the region by August 20.
“By August 21, I will be able to clearly communicate how many seats the BJP intends to contest,” he said, signaling that decisions on candidate nominations will be made shortly thereafter. The BTC elections are anticipated to take place prior to the Durga Puja festival, with results and the formation of the new council expected by September 28.
“Durga Puja starts on September 29. I guarantee that the new BTC team will be in place by September 27 or 28,” he assured.
In a measured approach amid the election atmosphere, Sarma stated he would avoid making disparaging remarks about his political rivals.
“I will refrain from commenting negatively about Hagrama Mohilary or Pramod Bodo. The UPPL continues to be a part of the NDA,” he added.
Regarding candidate selection for the upcoming BTC elections, CM Sarma indicated that state BJP president Dilip Saikia will finalize the candidate list.
