Guwahati, Jan 26 (NationPress) Over the course of a three-day visit to Dibrugarh, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assessed the advancement of various schemes launched by the Central and State Governments in the Naharkatia co-district on Sunday, as reported by officials.
He received detailed reports from senior officials across multiple departments concerning the execution of diverse schemes and the development initiatives within the co-district.
Significantly, the Assam government has established co-districts, marking a unique strategy in the country. In its initial phase, the state government introduced 39 co-districts in October of the previous year. Key features of these co-districts consist of smaller administrative units beneath the district level and prompt access to essential government services for citizens.
Chief Minister Sarma asserted that this pivotal initiative will enhance efficiency, bringing governance closer to the grassroots level while streamlining services focused on citizens.
During the meeting, Sarma reviewed the ongoing initiatives of the Public Works Department in Naharkatia, instructing the completion of the Sasoni-Belbari Ali and Kikir-Balirghat connecting bridges by February of the following year.
He also mandated the timely construction of hanging bridges under the oversight of the Forest Department, stressing the importance of utilizing locally sourced materials and advising that imported materials should only be used when absolutely necessary.
With an aim to boost sports infrastructure, the CM discussed plans for the development of the Naharkatia Hockey Stadium. The construction of a prison in Naharkatia was also on the agenda, along with proposals to convert the Naharkatia Nagaon Rajkhowa playground into a mini stadium.
He instructed officials to prepare proposals for establishing an additional district and sessions court in each subdivision and emphasized the timely completion of under-construction school buildings, including Sasoni Higher Secondary School. The Chief Minister also suggested repurposing closed government schools for official purposes in the future. The development initiatives in the Naharkatia Legislative Assembly constituency were further reviewed during Sunday’s meeting.
Sarma urged the Health, Agriculture, and Power departments to finalize ongoing projects within the established timelines and directed senior officials to ensure that employees working from locations other than their assigned workplaces return to their respective departments.
Highlighting the necessity of defining agricultural field boundaries through tree planting, he called on the Agriculture and Forest Departments to initiate a tree-planting campaign for a greener Assam. The issue of providing drinking water to tea workers was also addressed, with the CM instructing the relevant department to explore the feasibility of installing water pipes in tea gardens to create a reliable water supply system.
Sarma also directed the relevant authorities to categorize the unclassified land of the Naharkatia co-district and ensure their inclusion in the appropriate classification. He proposed the installation of solar-powered lighting and fencing systems to mitigate human-elephant conflicts.
