Guwahati, April 23 (NationPress) With less than two weeks remaining until the Panchayat elections in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to participate in three public gatherings on Wednesday as part of the election campaign.

Sarma will host rallies in Majuli, Teok, and Golaghat. He stated, “Today, as I campaign for the #AssamPanchayatPolls, I aim to gain the support of the people in Majuli, Teok, and Golaghat. Join me as we unveil the NDA's strategy for robust Panchayats in Assam.”

Previously, the Chief Minister revealed that the BJP-led NDA in the state has clinched an impressive 325 seats without opposition in the forthcoming Panchayat elections.

Sarma noted, “Current reports indicate that the NDA has already acquired 37 Zila Parishad seats (35 for BJP and 2 for AGP) along with 288 Anchalik Panchayat seats (259 for BJP and 29 for AGP) unopposed.”

According to the Chief Minister, this represents a significant and unparalleled mandate in Assam’s political landscape. It demonstrates the profound trust and overwhelming affection the people of Assam have for the NDA and for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He added, “We are optimistic that once the final election results are announced, this number will increase even further. The NDA is poised to dominate the Panchayat elections in Assam. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the people of Assam and deep appreciation to our dedicated karyakartas for their relentless efforts and steadfast allegiance.”

Meanwhile, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi accused the “goons” of the BJP of perpetrating violence against opposition candidates as the Panchayat polls approach.

Gogoi asserted, “The state administration exhibits partiality towards the BJP, and they have failed to act against the ruling party's goons. State Congress president Bhupen Borah and MP Pradyut Bordoloi have brought this matter to the attention of the police; however, no measures have been taken against the BJP's thugs.”

He further declared that Congress workers will not be cowed and will confront the BJP at the polls. “We have a long-standing tradition of contesting against the ruling party, and our members are resolute in resisting the intimidation and fear tactics employed by the BJP,” Gogoi added.

The Panchayat elections in Assam are scheduled to occur in two phases on May 2 and May 7.
