Guwahati, Feb 13 (NationPress) The Assam Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Jayanta Mallabaruah, officially launched the Online Building Permission System (OBPS) on Thursday. This innovative digital platform is designed to optimize the procedure for acquiring building permits throughout the state, as reported by officials.
An official announcement stated that this initiative aims to boost transparency, efficiency, and the overall business environment in the construction industry, ensuring a seamless experience for residents, developers, and associated parties.
“Moving forward, all construction permit applications will be handled solely via the online portal, thereby removing the need for manual processing,” the statement noted.
During the launch event at the Assam Administrative Staff College, Mallabaruah highlighted that the OBPS represents a pivotal advancement in making the building permit process in Assam more effective, transparent, and devoid of corruption. This system is set to provide a hassle-free experience for both citizens and businesses while increasing accountability in urban planning.
He further remarked: “This portal will facilitate a smoother and completely corruption-free building permission process. Besides approvals, services including construction notifications, plinth level inspections, inspections during construction, and completion-cum-occupancy certificates will also be accessible on this platform.”
“The OBPS is now operational in 32 Master Plan areas such as Nalbari, Tihu, Rangia, Barpeta, Dhubri, Bongaigaon, Nagaon, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Silchar, among others, covering towns with a population exceeding 50,000. The initiative is set to expand to additional towns statewide soon,” the Minister added.
The event, organized by the Assam Directorate of Town and Country Planning, showcased presentations from officials of GMDA and SoftTech Engineers Ltd. based in Pune, followed by a live demonstration and an interactive session.
A senior official commented: “This initiative marks a significant leap for the Assam Government towards digital governance and urban progress. The OBPS portal is now available at https://obps.assam.gov.in, where applicants can access guidelines, FAQs, and user manuals for support.”
