Guwahati, 12 May — Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Ranoj Pegu on Tuesday declared that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Assam would press ahead with fulfilling the aspirations of the state's people, citing the alliance's record of delivering on its commitments during its previous tenure. His remarks came moments after the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government at the Khanapara playground in Guwahati, which he described as a moment of "great pride" for the state.

A Historic Third Consecutive Term

The oath-taking ceremony marked the beginning of the third consecutive NDA government in Assam — a milestone that Pegu and other BJP leaders highlighted as a reflection of voter confidence. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in for a second consecutive term as Chief Minister, alongside four other ministers, amid elaborate security arrangements across the venue.

"It is a proud moment for all of us that such an important programme took place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from around 22 states. The NDA government has been sworn in for the third consecutive term in Assam," Pegu told reporters.

Star-Studded Ceremony at Khanapara

The swearing-in drew a high-profile gathering of central and state leadership. Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, several Union Ministers, NDA Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and senior BJP leaders from across the country attended the ceremony. Lakhs of BJP supporters and party workers gathered at the Khanapara playground to witness the occasion, underscoring the political significance the party attached to the event.

Pegu on Promises Kept and the Road Ahead

Pegu, who served as the Education Minister in the previous Sarma-led government and was regarded as one of its prominent cabinet faces, stated that the BJP-led administration had fulfilled a large number of commitments made to voters during its earlier tenure. He stressed that the new government would continue to prioritise development and welfare initiatives statewide.

"The NDA government under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party had earlier made several promises and successfully implemented many of them. We firmly believe that from the very first day of this new term, the government will work towards fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Assam," he added.

What the Mandate Signals

According to Pegu, the scale of the public mandate in favour of the NDA reflected the trust voters have placed in the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP. This comes amid a broader pattern of NDA consolidation across northeast India, where the alliance has steadily expanded its electoral footprint over the past decade. Assam's third consecutive NDA win reinforces the BJP's northeastern strategy and is likely to shape the party's approach to the region ahead of future electoral cycles.

With the new cabinet now in place, attention will turn to the policy agenda Sarma's government sets out in its first hundred days — particularly on development, welfare delivery, and the commitments Pegu and other leaders have publicly renewed.
