Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, April 2 (NationPress) Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal launched a vehement critique of the Indian National Congress on Thursday, asserting that the large attendance at campaign rallies in Upper Assam signifies a clear repudiation of its "failed and divisive politics".
While campaigning for Bolin Chetia in Sadiya and Taranga Gogoi in Naharkatia, the prominent BJP leader noted that the enthusiasm exhibited by voters showcases an increasing faith in the governance model of the BJP-led NDA, which prioritizes peace, stability, and development.
During his address at a rally in Dangari, Sadiya, Sonowal claimed that Congress has historically overlooked remote areas, leaving them without essential infrastructure and opportunities.
He accused the party of implementing policies that infringe on the rights of indigenous populations, referencing the controversial IMDT Act as a case in point.
“The public remembers the long years of neglect and injustice. Today, they are coming out in significant numbers to endorse a government committed to development, stability, and accountability,” stated Sonowal.
He further asserted that voter responses indicate a distinct move away from what he characterized as “outdated politics”, emphasizing that people now value growth, connectivity, and job creation over “empty promises”.
Continuing his campaign in Naharkatia, Sonowal held public meetings at Mahmora and Kamar Gaon, where he reiterated that the NDA’s development agenda has garnered widespread acceptance across all societal segments.
“The overwhelming public backing we are experiencing indicates that the BJP-led alliance remains robust and unmatched in this region. The populace has turned its back on Congress's politics rooted in corruption, neglect, and division,” he remarked.
Sonowal stressed that the NDA government has ushered in lasting peace and accelerated development in Assam, contrasting this with what he termed Congress’s legacy of instability and uncertainty.
“While Congress thrived on chaos, the NDA has ensured peace and progress. The people of Assam are determined to pursue this developmental path,” he concluded.
He urged voters to provide a decisive mandate, calling for continued support to the NDA to protect Assam’s future and avert a return to “misgovernance and neglect”.
