Key Takeaways
Guwahati, April 4 (NationPress) On Saturday, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, launched a fierce critique of the Congress party, accusing it of leading Assam into a "dark era of violence and insecurity". He urged voters to support the BJP-led NDA to protect the state's "land, identity, culture, and language".
While campaigning in the Duliajan Assembly constituency for BJP candidate Rameswar Teli, Sonowal spoke at public gatherings in Bhadoi and Tengakhat, accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Terash Gowalla and other party officials. He also campaigned in Guwahati Central's Mitha Amtal area for BJP candidate Vijay Gupta, asserting that the Opposition has "lost credibility" among the populace.
At the rallies, Sonowal stated, "To preserve the honour and identity of our people, it is essential to safeguard Assam’s land, culture, language and heritage. This is the call of the times." He emphasized that the protection of 'Jati, Maati, Bheti' is central to the BJP's mission.
Commending Gupta, Sonowal described him as a compassionate and dedicated leader, expressing confidence that Guwahati Central would yield a "resounding third mandate" for peace and rapid development.
In Duliajan, he referred to Teli as a "simple, honest and committed leader" who enjoys widespread public trust.
Drawing on Assam's rich historical legacy, Sonowal invoked the ideals of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan and dynasty founder Sukaphaa, linking their values to the governance philosophy of PM Modi. He stated that the Centre's vision of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" is fostering inclusive growth throughout the state.
Highlighting various welfare initiatives, Sonowal noted that programs such as Arunodoi and PM-Kisan have enhanced socio-economic conditions via direct benefit transfers, ensuring transparency and eliminating middlemen.
He also claimed that over 800,000 land pattas have been granted to indigenous landless families, while substantial areas of encroached land have been reclaimed.
Sonowal criticized the Congress for a past marked by insurgency-related violence and fear, stating, "People lived with insecurity. Today, that situation has changed. The Opposition stands exposed."
He called for a decisive mandate, urging voters to ensure BJP's victory in the upcoming elections to maintain peace, development, and protection of Assam's identity.
