A formal assault complaint has been lodged with the Behala police station in Kolkata against Bengali actor and former All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Soham Chakraborty, after a carpenter alleged he was beaten, threatened, and had his phone snatched when he visited the actor's residence to collect outstanding dues. The complainant, Rajkapur Sharma, approached the police on Monday, 25 August 2025, triggering a formal enquiry.

What the Complaint Alleges

According to the written complaint, Rajkapur Sharma was engaged on 12 May to build a cupboard at Soham Chakraborty's residence in the Behala area of south Kolkata. A contract worth ₹55,000 was signed, with an advance of ₹30,000 paid upfront. After completing roughly 80 per cent of the initial work, Sharma was assigned two additional cupboards, of which approximately 50 per cent had been completed before payments stopped.

Sharma alleged that when he sought his remaining dues, the actor verbally abused him. He also named the actor's bodyguard, Totan Sardar, in the complaint, accusing both men of abusing him, threatening to kill him, and forcibly taking his mobile phone.

How the Alleged Incident Unfolded

According to the complaint, a security guard associated with Soham called Sharma on Sunday and asked him to come to the residence the following day to collect his payment. On arriving on Monday, Sharma was reportedly kept waiting for an extended period with assurances that money would be provided. When he eventually pressed for the outstanding amount, he alleged he was mistreated, had his phone confiscated, was physically assaulted, and was forcibly pushed out of the premises.

He then proceeded directly to the Behala police station and filed a written assault complaint. Police confirmed that an enquiry has been initiated based on the complaint. Soham Chakraborty had not responded to the allegations as of the time of reporting.

A Pattern of Prior Allegations

This is not the first time the actor has faced legal trouble. In July last year, a businessman named Sheikh Shahid Imam — a resident of Arambagh in Hooghly district and head of Sonam Movies — filed a complaint at the Charu Market police station in Tollygunge, south Kolkata, accusing Chakraborty of cheating him of ₹68 lakh, issuing death threats, and breach of trust.

Prior to that, during his tenure as an MLA, Chakraborty reportedly faced allegations involving threats and the alleged assault of restaurant workers during a film shoot in the city. The latest complaint marks at least the third separate set of allegations to surface against him in recent years.

What Happens Next

The Behala police have confirmed the enquiry is underway. Depending on the findings, investigators may summon both Soham Chakraborty and his bodyguard Totan Sardar for questioning. The actor's silence on the matter, as of now, leaves the allegations uncontested in the public domain.
