Maharashtra Government Takes Action: Assistant Registrar Suspended in Cooperative Housing Society Fraud
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, February 27 (NationPress) In a significant move, Maharashtra's Cooperation Minister, Babasaheb Patil, has declared the immediate suspension of the Assistant Registrar linked to the Anand Cooperative Housing Society scandal in Nagpur Rural. This action comes after a vigorous intervention from Congress Legislative Party Leader, Vijay Wadettiwar, who highlighted discrepancies related to the unlawful sale of land designated for public utilities. The Minister addressed questions posed by members Dharmrao Atram and Nerendra Bhindrkar.
Minister Patil also announced that a comprehensive inquiry will be initiated to investigate the involvement of the Besa Chief Officer and other officials, with a directive to conclude the investigation and implement necessary actions within one month. The controversy revolves around land situated at Khasra Nos 10A and 10B within the Anand Society in Nagpur.
As per the information revealed in the House, approximately 11,107 square feet of land, initially earmarked for public utilities (specifically intended for a transformer), was reportedly sold illegally by the society’s secretary, Kailas Chute, for personal profit. While the land was under the jurisdiction of the Besa Gram Panchayat, Chute allegedly submitted two layouts depicting the land as reserved for public use. However, once the area was incorporated into a Nagar Panchayat, the maps were allegedly modified to enable the illegal sale of plots to an individual named Salunkhe.
Wadettiwar adopted a confrontational approach, asserting that the Assistant Registrar had previously provided a misleading inquiry report to shield the accused. He contended that the Chief Officer of Besa was equally guilty of documenting these illicit transactions in official records. "The reservation for public utilities was circumvented through corrupt financial dealings. Those who submitted false reports to protect this scam must be held accountable," he emphasized.
Recognizing the seriousness of the findings, Cooperation Minister Patil conceded that the initial inquiry report submitted by the department was erroneous and ordered the immediate suspension of the Assistant Registrar responsible for the flawed report.
Furthermore, the minister stated that a formal investigation into the Besa Chief Officer and other subordinate officials is set to be finalized within 30 days. He added that steps are being taken to rectify the illegal transfer of the 11,107 sq ft reserved parcel.
