New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi vehemently criticized the recently installed BJP administration in the national capital, alleging that it has disrespected the revered legacies of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
The former CM asserted that the portraits of Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh have been taken down from all government buildings in the capital, including the office of the Delhi Chief Minister. She stated that this act reflects the ruling BJP’s ignorance and disdain towards Dalits and Sikhs.
Labeling the BJP as anti-Dalit and anti-Sikh, Atishi remarked that during the leadership of Kejriwal, both Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh were honored, but their portraits have been removed since the BJP's ascendance to power.
She also presented 'before and after' images of the portraits of Baba Saheb and Bhagat Singh that were displayed in the CM's office.
According to her, the AAP delegation obtained these images during a visit to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta's office during lunch.
“One gave us the Constitution while the other laid down his life for the country's freedom at just 23 years old. The BJP has shown disrespect to both,” she expressed to reporters.
Atishi declared that her party would stage protests from the streets to the Assembly against such an insult to the nation's icons.
“We strongly oppose the removal of the portraits. We will protest both inside and outside the Assembly,” she emphasized.
Additionally, Atishi criticized the BJP government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to deliver on promises regarding monthly financial support for women.
“PM Modi assured that the first Cabinet meeting of the Delhi government would approve the ‘Mahila Samman Yojana’, yet nothing has been done so far,” she noted.
Atishi further mentioned meeting with Delhi CM Rekha Gupta to ensure that women in Delhi receive the first installment of Rs 2,500 by March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day.
