New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) The President of Delhi BJP, Virendra Sachdeva, asserted on Tuesday that the assertion made by the Leader of the Opposition, Atishi, claiming she did not disrespect the Sikh Gurus during a discussion in the House, is entirely inaccurate.
Sachdeva stated that the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, mandated a forensic review of the original Assembly recording, which confirmed that Atishi used language towards the Sikh Gurus that was both inappropriate and disrespectful.
The President of the Delhi BJP urged the residents of Delhi and the nation to question Atishi, who professes to honor Sikhism and claims her family is connected to the Sikh faith, about her whereabouts from January 6—the date she made her controversial remarks in the Assembly—until January 18.
Sachdeva pointed out that on the morning of January 7, when Delhi Government Minister Kapil Mishra shared a video of Atishi’s offensive comments regarding the Sikh Gurus on the social media platform X, it quickly escalated into a major controversy.
Furthermore, the Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly issued a notice to Atishi to appear before the House; however, she neither declared Mishra’s post on X to be false nor responded to the Speaker’s notice until the forensic report from the Punjab Government regarding the video was released.
Sachdeva emphasized that Atishi is not the first leader of AAP to offend a particular religion.
Prior to her, Delhi AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj made derogatory remarks about Christianity while performing a skit on air pollution around last Christmas; in October 2024, former minister Rajendra Pal Gautam disrespected Hindu deities; and in early 2021, AAP leaders and supporters insulted the holy Quran.
“Thus, the offense committed by Atishi is not the first religious transgression by AAP leaders,” stated the Delhi BJP chief.
