Is There National Outrage Over Atishi's Disrespect Toward Sikh Gurus?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 10 (NationPress) - Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated on Saturday that there is an overwhelming sense of anger among the Sikh community nationwide, including in Punjab and Delhi, regarding Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi allegedly 'insulting' the Sikh Gurus.
Sachdeva highlighted that this discontent stems from the Punjab Police clearing Atishi without properly examining the original footage from the Delhi Assembly, where she reportedly used disrespectful language towards the Sikh Guru.
Due to the rising sentiments among the Sikh populace, AAP leadership has reportedly kept Atishi away in Goa, with MP Sanjay Singh stepping in to defend her.
Sachdeva noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently worked towards honoring and elevating the Sikh community's respect, evidenced by initiatives such as opening the corridor to Shri Kartarpur Sahib and the recent celebrations of the 350th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. Thus, the Sikh community holds him in high regard.
The Delhi BJP President expressed that Sanjay Singh, who is advocating for Atishi, needs to clarify why the Punjab Police issued a clean chit without reviewing the original assembly footage.
Sachdeva questioned why, after AAP MLAs demanded an investigation into the video shared by Minister Kapil Mishra, a clean chit was granted overnight by the Punjab Police when the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly agreed to an inquiry.
He also mentioned that the inquiry report regarding Atishi's statements in the Assembly will soon be made public, after which the AAP leadership may have to take action against the Kalkaji legislator.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor remarked that the residents of Delhi are perplexed by the recent activities of AAP leaders at Rajghat and during press interactions.
Kapoor stated that the press conference was convened following attempts to obtain a clean chit for former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who reportedly made inappropriate comments about Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.
He added that the people of Delhi are curious about Atishi's whereabouts since she made her controversial remarks in the Assembly on January 6.
