Is Atishi Truly Untraceable? Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra Criticizes Punjab Police and Government for FIR Against Him
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Accusing the Punjab Police and the AAP-led Punjab government of showing disrespect toward the Delhi Assembly, Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra on Tuesday labeled former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi as "untraceable" since she supposedly made disparaging comments regarding Sikh Gurus within the legislature of the city.
Mishra is facing an FIR in Punjab's Jalandhar district for allegedly disseminating a "manipulated" video clip of Atishi's contentious statement. He unveiled a poster featuring the AAP leader with the word "Untraceable" prominently displayed in Hindi.
"The one who committed the crime is evading capture, missing," Mishra asserted in a post on X, showcasing his photo alongside the poster. He referred to a "sin" committed in the Delhi Assembly on January 6.
"A sin that has never occurred in any other Parliamentary House in the country," he expressed.
Mishra elaborated, "A discussion was in progress to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Bhai Satidas Ji, Bhai Matidas Ji, and Bhai Dayala Ji. The Leader of the Opposition in Delhi interrupted that discussion with highly offensive and abusive language."
Addressing the notice issued by the Delhi Assembly to the Punjab Police demanding an update on the FIR against him, Mishra commented, "They are requesting additional time and undermining the dignity of the Delhi Assembly. Such a request for more time is merely a diversionary tactic."
Mishra challenged the Punjab Police's choice to have a video clip pertaining to Atishi's comment in the Delhi Assembly analyzed at a forensic laboratory without the Assembly's consent. "The original recording of the remark is the property of the Delhi Assembly. The Punjab government ought to have notified the Delhi Assembly before initiating a forensic examination of the video clip," he stated.
The Delhi Minister asserted, "The Punjab Police is being exploited... false allegations are being made against individuals, and efforts are being made to intimidate them."
"Today, I urge Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann not to partake in this sin. Politics has its place, but honoring the Guru holds a unique significance," Mishra emphasized.
The Punjab Police have filed charges against Mishra, claiming he circulated a "doctored" video of Atishi's comments in the Assembly.
The Delhi Assembly has also requested a report from the Punjab Police regarding how they initiated the investigation using footage that belongs exclusively to the Assembly.
Delhi Speaker Vijender Gupta previously requested a written explanation from the Punjab Police by Monday; however, the latter has sought an additional ten days.
On Monday, the Speaker instructed the Punjab Police to provide their response to the controversy by Thursday.
