New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) The eagerly awaited Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is scheduled for its official launch in Delhi on Saturday, marking an important milestone in enhancing healthcare accessibility for the city's most at-risk populations.
The government of Delhi is ready to formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the central government, solidifying their collaboration to implement the scheme and extend health benefits to families in dire need.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed the agreement, announcing that the MoU will be signed on Saturday, thus bringing the health coverage advantages of the Ayushman Bharat scheme to the residents of Delhi.
Gupta highlighted that this program would significantly bolster the city’s healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that families requiring assistance receive vital support.
This announcement was made following a crucial meeting led by CM Gupta on Friday, which included Cabinet ministers and senior officials from the health department.
The decision to launch the scheme was celebrated as a crucial advancement for public health services in the national capital.
Through the Ayushman Bharat scheme, qualifying families in Delhi will be entitled to an annual health coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh. This total will consist of Rs 5 lakh funded by the Centre and an additional Rs 5 lakh from the Delhi government as a supplementary amount.
The scheme guarantees free and cashless treatment for numerous medical services, covering 1,961 procedures, medications, diagnostics, hospitalization, surgeries, and ICU care.
Currently, 91 hospitals have been empaneled under the scheme, including 46 private hospitals, 34 Delhi government-run hospitals, and 11 Centre-run facilities to provide these services.
This initiative follows the endorsement of the scheme by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi after regaining power in February, ending a 26-year period.
The scheme was approved during the inaugural Cabinet meeting after Chief Minister Gupta and her ministers took office on February 20, 2025.
