New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) With the rollout of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) in Delhi, 36 lakh individuals in the national capital will gain access to free healthcare, as stated by Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Thursday.
He mentioned that all senior citizens aged 70 and older, irrespective of their financial status, will be included under the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana.
“Delhi has made a significant advancement in healthcare with the initiation of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM),” declared J.P. Nadda.
J.P. Nadda referred to AB PM-JAY as the largest health coverage initiative in the world.
“To date, over 8.19 crore individuals across India have received treatment under this program, and the government has invested approximately Rs 1.26 lakh crore on it,” the Union Health Minister emphasized.
He pointed out that 19 lakh of those treated were individuals who could not have afforded it otherwise.
“Thanks to this initiative, India’s out-of-pocket healthcare expenses have decreased from 62 percent to 38 percent,” J.P. Nadda noted.
The Union Health Ministry and the Delhi government also formalized a pact to implement this scheme within the National Capital Territory.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta remarked that healthcare has consistently been a major focus for the Union Government.
She disclosed that under PM-ABHIM, Delhi has been allocated Rs 1,749 crore to enhance healthcare infrastructure.
“These funds will be utilized for the establishment of 1,139 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, the strengthening of 11 integrated public health labs, and the creation of 9 critical care blocks,” Gupta elaborated.
During this event, 30 beneficiaries were given their Ayushman cards, which grant them access to free healthcare under the scheme.
Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava stated that participating in PM-ABHIM will provide Delhi with robust and future-ready health infrastructure.
“Families enrolled under AB PM-JAY will receive Rs 10 lakh in health coverage annually – Rs 5 lakh from the central scheme and an additional Rs 5 lakh from the Delhi government,” Srivastava concluded.
