Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card: A Lifeline for the Elderly in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh

Maharajganj (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 11 (NationPress) The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has emerged as a vital resource for senior citizens in Uttar Pradesh, especially for those over the age of 70 who frequently encounter the burden of exorbitant medical expenses. With the introduction of the Ayushman Vaya Vandana cards, elderly individuals can now avail health benefits totaling Rs 5 lakh, providing essential support during their golden years.

This initiative, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is part of a broader mission to enhance healthcare accessibility and safeguard the health of older citizens.

Numerous beneficiaries have expressed heartfelt gratitude towards both leaders, recognizing this initiative as a crucial intervention for those unable to bear the costs of expensive medical care.

Vindhyalal Shrivastava, one of the inaugural beneficiaries, shared his sentiments: "I received my Ayushman card today. I am elated that I will be granted Rs 5 lakh for my medical needs. This is a commendable initiative by CM Yogi Adityanath and PM Modi. We are extremely satisfied. People like us cannot afford costly medicines."

His reflections echo the thoughts of many others who now find themselves with access to healthcare benefits they once deemed unattainable.

The rollout of the Ayushman Vaya Vandana cards for those over 70 is a segment of the central government’s and Uttar Pradesh’s comprehensive strategy to enhance healthcare infrastructure and ensure medical services are accessible to all, particularly vulnerable groups.

The Rs 5 lakh coverage is aimed at alleviating the financial burdens that elderly citizens often endure concerning healthcare during their later years.

In the Maharajganj district, the distribution of Ayushman Vaya Vandana cards is progressing well, facilitated by the efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government.

District Magistrate Anunay Jha underscored the advancement of the initiative, stating, "For the past 15 days, we have been conducting daily camps in five villages of each block area to assist senior citizens in obtaining their Ayushman Vaya Vandana cards."

These camps are operated by collaborative teams from the Health Department, the Postal Department, and Panchayati Raj, who are also aiding beneficiaries in acquiring Aadhaar cards.

As of now, over 17,700 Ayushman Vaya Vandana cards have been issued in the district. These cards are considered a lifeline for the elderly, who now feel more secure about accessing healthcare services.

On October 29, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the need to broaden the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana to encompass all senior citizens aged 70 and above. This expansion guarantees that elderly citizens, irrespective of their socio-economic standing, will receive the Ayushman Vaya Vandana card, enabling them to access complimentary medical treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh annually.

The scheme further extends coverage for senior citizens already enrolled in Ayushman Bharat.

Families already benefiting under the scheme will be qualified for an additional top-up of Rs 5 lakh per year for their medical expenditures.

Moreover, senior citizens who are beneficiaries of alternative governmental health schemes such as the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), and Ayushman Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) can choose to continue with their current scheme or transition to the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

The advantages extend even further, with senior citizens possessing private health insurance or participating in the Employees State Insurance Scheme (ESI) also eligible to utilize the services provided by the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

The Ayushman Vaya Vandana card represents a pivotal advancement in ensuring that senior citizens are not neglected in the pursuit of accessible healthcare. By establishing a solid health safety net for the elderly, this initiative permits them to concentrate on their well-being without the anxiety of overwhelming medical costs.

This considerate intervention by the government is being warmly welcomed by beneficiaries, who express profound appreciation for the financial and medical relief it brings during their senior years.
